Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (STAP)

Los Angeles' Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (STAP) is a city initiative aimed at replacing thousands of bus shelters to "improve shade, safety, and technology." Architecture firm SOM led the design team in collaboration with Designworks (a BMW company) and Long Beach-based urban planning firm Studio One Eleven. The rollout began in early 2024, and the 150th shelter installation was celebrated in June 2025. Streets LA and Tranzito-Vector plan on adding 3,000 new shelters citywide by 2028.
